Under 18s Review 2024
A season of ups and downs with 5 of the 6 games being played and the other lost to rain when in a commanding position. We had 4 play- ers playing 1st team cricket this season. With Jaden Rose, Matthew Evans, Lewis Duncan-Brown and Michael Butterworth all playing at least one game. We also had a few players making their 2nd team debuts in Joe Walsh and Adam Morris. Also Ethan McCormack play- ing and bowling well at Colwyn Bay in a second team cup match. All the squad playing senior cricket which was good to see.
Again the season started late due to the older lads doing their exams. The first match was a game at home to Wallasey. We posted 106 for 3 which was built on a solid partnership of 65 between Lewis Duncan
-Brown and Matthew Evans. Unfortunately we lost the game with Wallasey getting over the with 4 down in the 17th over.
We Travelled next to Birkenhead Park for the 2nd game and bowled brilliantly to restrict them to 60for 9 off their 20 overs. Lewis having an amazing spell taking 4 for 3. We passed their total with 5 wickets down Jaden Rose topped scored with 38.
A very strong Wavertree team at home were next in a game were we scored 122-7 in our 20 overs Jaden with an excellent 52 not out and Matthew Medlicott with 35 not out. The match went to the final over, the result not going our way. Wavertree winning with 4 wickets down. Matthew Medlicott taking two wickets.
The weather then intervened during our game with Liverpool We had them 54 for 5 in11 overs Sami Ullah 3 for 9.
We Travelled to Sefton Park for our last away game and we came out on the wrong end of the result we wanted. Ending up 91 all out Lewis 29 and Ethan McCormack 17 not out. We managed to take the game deep, but they passed our total with two wickets down. The last game of the season was home to Rainhill and posted 131-4 Lewis Duncan-Brown 31 and Sami Ullah’s brilliant 52 not out. We then bowled and fielded well restricting Rainhill to 111 for 9 in their 20 overs. Michael Butterworth taking 3 wickets.
The team finished mid-table but with a bit more luck on our side we could have finished higher. I would like to thank Danny Hart for his help throughout the season and during training sessions. Kerryann for scoring and the parents, Not just for getting the lads to nets but also the matches. Onto next season and hopefully push on again and show what we can do.

Junior Belles Review 2024
Junior Belles are continuing to thrive with many stepping up age groups and representing the Women’s XI in softball super 8s, Hard- ball super 8s and also T20.
Keep shining girls!
A massive thank you to Paul Guinness for his first season as coach, alongside other coaches, I know the girls have had a fantastic season with you all.
The club is bouncing
but the hard work doesn’t stop.
I would be lying if I didn’t say last season has been a year of mixed emotions, From winter right up to the end of the season there is al- ways bound to be ups and downs. But the End of Season awards night truly showcases what the club is all about and makes it truly worth- while.
First of all I would like to thank all the parents for helping around the club, and on match days, giving lifts, scoring even at times first aid. Without you we simply wouldn’t have the amazing youth section we currently have, and I hope all the young players appreciate what you do for them, Just as much as we do.
Thank you to all the players, whilst the main aim for attending the club is to enjoy the game, the hard work you have all put in from the very start of winter nets to the last games and training sessions has been superb. If you work hard and get things done, it makes it more enjoyable for you as individuals and helps the coaches tenfold.
Thank you to the Engine Room that is Tom Law, you really inspire me year on year for everything you do for the junior section, we are all forever thankful and I don’t think there is ever anything capable of repaying you for what you have done for Bootle Cricket Club. I sound like a broken record, but you are genuinely are a legend mate.
Thank you to the committee and are Chair, Jackie Without all the vol- untary work you all do we simply wouldn’t have the facilities that many of us see as a second home. Like, I mentioned on the awards night. Bootle cricket club has been a safe haven for me for 20 plus years now as the seasons pass, I see the same effect on many of our young superstars. The club is bouncing and there is no better place to be .
I would like to thank my amazing coaching team…
Under 9s
I’m very proud of the work both Kev and Ian have put in this year. The patience they have with the kids is something I aspire to have one day, and I’m forever thankful for the work they put in.
We have a very promising set of kids at this level who show eagerness to learn and that’s shown a lot this season in terms of getting players of this age straight onto hardball and many of them playing for year groups above.
Under 11s
At the start of the season, they set out to focus on pairs cricket, but well done to Gem, Tom and Paul for fielding teams in both pairs and T16 competitions, it shows the level that the age group was at. Not only that, totally against the recommendations I made to only carry on with pairs cricket, they as coaches took it upon themselves to or-ganise having teams selected and to continue to rotate the squad to ensure everyone got game time whilst still maintaining competitive sides.
As you know myself along with all the coaches and many others in-volved with running of the junior section, we are all volunteers. What
Gem, Tom and Paul took on this year must have been nothing short of stressful but at the same time rewarding come the end of season.
So well done for that.

Under 13's Review 2024
It was a very good season for development with the under 13s this year. There was a good balance of boys and girls, where there was always 6 and 5 of the other. There were quite a few who played both under 13s and under 15s and that shows how good they are.
Unfortunately the weather took it’s toll. With a third of our games falling foul of it.
The season produced a numerous amount of achievements, with a pick of the bunch Riley Stevenson taking a hat-trick and also 5 wickets in a match. Not surprisingly Riley finished top of the bowling leader- board.
Elsie Guinness taking 3 wickets in a magnificent bowling spell against Wavertree. Elsie finished 8th on the leaderboard, with Lily Benton- Newman finishing 10th with consistent bowling throughout the season.
With the batting Daire Carroll scoring 2 x 30 not outs and finishing 4th on the most runs leaderboard with 110 runs. Riley Stevenson and Patrick Carroll both scoring 30 not outs. Riley finishing 6th with 96 runs. Emilia Pavey scored 27 not out and Ryan Williams 29. Ryan Vardy and Kyle Medlicott both hitting their first sixes in hard ball crick- et. We also had four players in the top 10 for (catches/run outs) Riley Stevenson, Ryan Vardy, Daire and Patrick Carroll.
Overall it’s been a great season. It’s been a pleasure watching the children come on leaps and bounds. I can’t wait to share a cricket pitch with them in the future.
Take Care

Under 11's Review 2024
The 2023 season ended on a high for our under 11 team, finishing second in the league after a hard fought season winning 5 from our seven matches, and the plan for 2024 was to go one better. A newly appointed coaching team of Gemma Hurst, Tom Meskell and Paul Guinness were keen to get stuck in and help progress the squad for the new challenge ahead.
The 2024 season started on the 5th May away to Sefton Park and although it ended in a loss, there were already signs of some great play- ers in the making. Patrick Carroll getting into double figures with the bat scoring 22 not out and great bowling from Emilia Pavey with fig- ures of 1 for 8 off two overs. The first win of the season came on the 10th May vs Southport & Birkdale where a close fought match saw Bootle clinch the win by 17 runs. Stand out performances from George Schafer with 14 not out and 3 for 5 off 2 overs helped seal the win. Bootle went on to win their next 2 games which included a brilliant bowling display from Patrick Edwards with figures of 2 for 3 off 2 overs at home to Southport Trinity. Unfortunately, the following 4 matches ended in defeat, one being an extremely close match vs Northern, which they won by 4 runs.
At this stage of the season, the team currently held 4th place in the competition, but a new pathway was introduced by the league and a change of course was decided on. From this point our under 11 team entered the newly established T16 league alongside the original pairs league. This was the first time this option was made available and both players, parents and coaching team thought it was an opportunity to grow that would benefit all.
The pairs league became dedicated to those players still In the early stages of their cricket development supported by some of the more senior players, but wow, some of them really impressed us. We witnessed some excellent bowling from Dylan Wales, with 2 for 6 off 2 overs, Leo Logan with 2 for 2 off 1, and Isobel Duncan Brown with 3 for 8 off 2 to mention just a few. By the end of the season, the team who had predominantly comprised of our younger/newer players, finished a very Admirable 3rd out of 11 teams in the league.
Alongside these matches, the T16 league was also under way with an unfortunate loss at home to Rainhill by just 2 runs. As disappointing as it was to lose, the performance was encouraging, we only lost 2 wickets, with good batting performances from Patrick Edwards 28 not out and Patrick Carroll 25 not out. The first win came on 26th July, home vs Southport Trinity, we won by 16 runs. This was aided by great bowling from Lilly Johansen with 2 for 10 off 2 overs and Smit Koli with 2 for 6 also off 2 overs. The T16 games were unfortunately impacted by the great British weather and 3 of their matches were cancelled. The last win of the season vs Maghull at home continued our excellent bowling performances displayed over the season, Oli- ver Guinness finishing with 2 for2 off 1 over and newcomer William Morton 2 for 4 off 2. The team ended 8th in the competition but with it being the first year entering this format, the coaching team were very impressed and saw a lot of potential for future seasons.
Gemma, Tom and Paul would like to take this opportunity to thank all players and parents for their support this season and hope to continue the growth and development of the team in 2025.

Under 9's Review 2024
The Season got off to a winning start for the under 9s winning both games at Liverpool, edging past the hosts followed by a comfortable win over Widnes. Thomas Duncan-Brown’s three wickets proving the Highlight of the day.
The winning start continued the following week, winning both games at Widnes. George Shafer top scoring with 43 closely followed by Pat- rick Edwards with 34.
A tournament at Sefton Park was next up for the under 9s were a hat- trick form Hudson Turner helped the team reach the Semi-Finals. Un- fortunately a thunderstorm halted play and we had to settle for a run- ners-up trophy.
As we hosted the next two weeks we were able to field two teams which gave Diana Shafer, Ben Wales and Casey Kirkham a chance to get amongst the wickets. Some great batting from Oliver Grannell and brilliant fielding from Isobel Duncan-Brown inspired both team to vic- tory.
A second tournament followed at Northern with the 9s winning four out of five games resulting in a respectable third place finish out of eleven teams.
Two close matches followed the week after both against Liverpool and a brilliant all round performance from Kian Johansen helped us to a three run victory over them. Kian kept up his hot streak the following week and with the help of Alfie Draper inspired the team to victory over Widnes.
An away fixture followed at Rainhill and despite George, Will and Diana all taking two wickets each, it was Will Morton who stole the show taking an amazing seven wickets inspiring the team to two victories over the hosts.
The under 9s continued their good form until the end of the season winning three out of the last four games.
Despite losing several players to the under 11s next season, the younger members of the team have shown that they have the talent to ensure the future is in safe hands.
Finally, thanks to Ian McCormack for his help throughout the season and to Mike for scoring each week.
