Firwood Bootle recording two home wins last weekend firstly against Colwyn Bay on Saturday, which took them to top of the Premier League, and secondly up against  Wallasey the following day in the Royal London National Club Championship second round.

Colwyn Bay openers Zack Gidlow, 29, and Ryan Westwell, 34, gave their side a very promising start adding 60 runs.Kieron New, with a devastating 6 for 37, supported by Scott Butterworth and Will Purser,2 wickets a-piece, drastically turned the tide reducing the Welshmen to a disappointing 144 all out after 48.5 overs.

In response the Wadham Road outfit`s Will Hale, 38, and Mike Farrell, a classy unbeaten, 79 in 112 deliveries, opened the Innings in fine style adding 80 runs. Sam Kershaw, 23, kept up the good work with the latter in a second wicket liaison of 53 leaving an 8 wicket victory a formality with 9.4 overs to spare.

On Sunday opener Will Hale, with a cultured 76 from 93 balls, held the early order together steering his side towards 156 for 4. Further good work from Will Purser, unbeaten on 46, and Neil Williams a quickfire 22 featuring one four and two sixes, enabled a competitive 200 for 5 posting in the allocated forty overs.

Scott Butterworth and Jahangir Liaqat had Wallasey in trouble on 14 for 2 in reply. Steven Williams, 51, and Sumit Ruiker, 50, put the visitors back in the picture adding 92 for the third wicket. After Scott Butterworth and Will Purser put the pair back in the pavilion the response fell away and an ecstatic Tom Meskell eventually mopped up the tail with his first ever 1st team wickets since playing for the club as a junior and ending with  3 for 17 in his 3.5 over’s completing a comfortable 44 run triumph for his side.

Wednesday night Firwood Bootle visit Maghull for a 6pm start in the Liverpool Echo Knockout and on Saturday make a trip to Ormskirk in the Premier League.
