RIP Philip Marshall Gill
It is with a very heavy and saddened heart we post the news today of our very own lifelong member Phil Gill affectionately known to us all as ‘Gilly’ who has passed peacefully away on Wednesday 18th December surrounded by his loving family.
Gilly started his cricket life whilst living with his family in their house actually on the site of Bootle Cricket Club, Wadham Road whilst his dad Harry Gill was the dedicated grounds man. Phil played cricket for all the teams and was 1st XI Captain from 1974 through to 1979 with Brenda by his side as his constant rock he always took a very active role in overseeing the ground whilst introducing both his boys to his love of cricket life. Phil was a strong active committee member for far too many years to count and later he became Chairman of the Club twice first in 1986 and again 1993 as a main part of the development of the work that went into building the new clubhouse in 2003 he was also a long term Vice President when he finally bestowed the greatest honour of becoming President of Firwood Bootle Cricket Club in 2017-2018.
Gilly was a man of all seasons of cricket and life who’s knowledge was well respected through the world of local cricket and he will be greatly missed by one and all.
Our heartfelt sincere condolences go out to Brenda, Andrew and Michael and not forgetting Phil’s sister Judy along with the rest of the family at this difficult time and we hope that Phil’s love of Bootle Cricket Club Family will bring them all some comfort and support in their quiet times ahead.
God bless and sleep tight Gilly x
