In a match played in an irritating and persistent drizzle, Bootle lifted the Liverpool Echo Challenge Cup at Wadham Road last Sunday (August 19th) with a dominating performance against Neston.  Will Purser set the tone by dismissing Simon Stokes and Will Evans in the game’s first over and these two were soon followed back to the pavilion by David Hurst and Luke Camden to leave the visitors reeling at 9 for 4.  A brave 5th wicket stand of 82 between Guy Reeve and Prithvi Saravaiya provided some badly needed impetus for our Cheshire County League opponents, but even so the best they could manage was 123 all out off the third ball of their final over.

Pinch hitter Scott Butterworth was lost at 11, but that mattered little as Will Hale, Vishal Tripathi (30) and Sam Kershaw exhibited exactly the right blend of aggression and good running between the wickets, allowing Bootle to take a stranglehold on proceedings which the Neston bowlers were powerless to loosen.  Will was 54 not out and Sam undefeated with 26 when we won by 7 wickets with twenty-nine balls to spare.  Very well done to Craig and the boys!
